Weekend at Sweetgrass Inn
Isle of Palms
Isle of Palms Weekend, Sweetgrass Inn Getaway
Recently we enjoyed a great weekend getaway in Isle of Palms, South Carolina at the brand new Sweetgrass Inn at Wild Dunes Resort.
We drove down Thursday and spent a night in the historic city of Charleston, SC. This made it super easy to get up and head down the road about 30 min to Sweetgrass Inn on Isle of Palms. It’s fun to spend a little time in historic Charleston combined with the resort for the weekend, it’s such a wonderful and historical city to sight see, dine and drink!
We checked in at four at Sweetgrass Inn and relaxed for a bit in our wonderful room. Our room had a nice balcony that faced the resort pools and the ocean! I love the modern, coastal vibes of the room decor and it felt great to cool down and escape the summer heat and humidity.
Dinner that night was at the Oystercatcher Restaurant & Bar located conveniently downstairs near the lobby. We had a wonderful dinner at the bar and sipped on some wine. The restaurant sources from local & sustainable seafood, meat and seasonal vegetables from local and regional purveyors around Isle of Palms and Charleston, SC. We ordered the Corn Puppies and Okra with Charred Okra, Green Tomato Chow-Chow, Sweet Corn Hushpuppies, Cajun Field Peas, Mustard and Old Bay Aioli (SO good!) to start, the Heirloom Tomato and Halibut Ceviche and the Catch of the Day. Such a delicious dinner seated at the bar. The weather got a little stormy while we ate, but blew through pretty quick and we stepped outside to check out the big firepit just outside the lobby doors.
Saturday we started the day at Hudson’s Market for some coffee and a quick bite for breakfast. I had an early morning spa appointment to get to! I also loved that there was complimentary coffee right in the lobby for those of us that need that early, easy caffeine hit! ;-)
I was excited to head down to the Spa at Sweetgrass for a facial. It’s been years since I’ve had a facial and it was really amazing. The spa technician did a great job and the facial was super relaxing and such a treat. The locker rooms have everything you need. After your spa treatment you can spend time in their private outdoor spa garden with plunge pools and cabanas! This little garden is a hidden gem. It is so worth booking a spa visit just to spend time in this little oasis!
Later on we packed our beach bags and headed out to the beach for a bit of time to read and relax. We had chairs and an umbrella waiting for us on the beach which was perfect!
We enjoyed lunch back by the pool at the Laughing Gull. Grabbed a burger, fries and some delicious fish tacos. Convenient and tasty!
We were going to take a bike ride but decided to head back to the beach for a while since the weather was good, before dinner to soak up a little more surf and sun.
“We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea, whether it is to sail or to watch - we are going back from whence we came.”
Saturday evening we slipped back down to the Oystercatcher for a cocktail. We ordered a margarita on the rocks and a drink called ’The Catcher and the Rye’, featuring a local Revival Rye whiskey, Antica Sweet Vermouth and Angostura and Orange Bitters. Both drinks were delicious and expertly crafted. We chatted a bit with the friendly bartenders and then made our way to dinner at Coastal Provisions which is located in the Boardwalk Inn, just a short walk from Sweetgrass Inn. We dined outdoors since the temps were nice. We had a truly amazing dinner. The food was excellently prepared. We had an amazing dessert called the "Oh Honey", featuring honey yogurt panna cotta, honeycomb, earl grey shortbread, lavender, candied pistachios, and bee pollen!
Sunday included a nice sleep in and big breakfast back at Coastal Provisions. I had a breakfast burrito and my husband had a delicious lump crab omelet with mushrooms, spinach, bacon, tomatoes and aged white cheddar.
It’s always hard to leave relaxing getaways like this, just as you are getting settled in and could get used to all this, it’s time to head back home. We packed up our bags and headed back to Raleigh. This new coastal-modern destination at Wild Dunes is such a great getaway from Raleigh for all ages, families, special occasions (great wedding venue!), etc. It’s an easy drive (just under five hours). Plus combining it with some time in Charleston makes a great mix of activities for a nice long weekend. There are some fun places to check out nearby in Sullivan’s Island as well like the Obstinate Daughter.
I want to thank the Sweetgrass Inn staff and resort for making our stay so wonderful and such a great experience for us! We tend to fill our travel agendas with a lot and this trip was a much needed relaxing break for just the two of us.
The resort is doing a great job providing a safe stay at Sweetgrass Inn. They are following all of the guidelines put forth by the CDC, WHO and NC to help prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Back to Raleigh, back to reality! :-)

The Sweetgrass Inn just opened this Spring and the accomodations are amazing. The rooms are beautiful with modern, coastal vibes. Clean and include everything you need for a long weekend stay. I loved our oceanview room and there is a spacious balcony to sit and enjoy the ocean view. Conveniently located coffee available just down in the lobby in the morning as well as the Spa and Oystercatcher bar.
